The Zenit-122 was produced in Russia by Kmz from 1990 until 2005 when it was eventually discontinued, it is estimated that during this time over 1.8 million units were sold.

The Zenit-122 Anniversary edition was produced to commemorate Kmz's 50th anniversary, and a special edition of the Zenit-122 camera was produced in 1992. The camera comes in titanium grey ABS plastic with gold silkscreened inscriptions. Even serial numbers have special markings as the camera bottom is signed "Made in Russia".
