La Praktica PL nova I fue presentada en 1967 por Pentacon como una nueva variante mejorada de la Praktica nova . Tenía un dial de velocidad de obturación mejorado y la velocidad de obturación faltante del nova original de 1/15 seg. Otra característica nueva fue el sistema de "carga Pentacon" (PL) para una inserción de película más rápida. El Praktica PL nova IB era una variante con medidor incorporado, también vendido como Porst PX4 y Hanimex Praktica nova I B.
