los dinax 40 fue presentado por Minolta en 2004 como SLR de consumo básico para películas de 35 mm. En los países tetrafóbicos se vendía como el Dynax 30. En otras regiones también se vendió como Maxxum 50 y α-50.

Aunque se describió como básica, la cámara estaba repleta de configuraciones preprogramadas para retrato, paisaje, retrato nocturno, macro y deportes. Además de estas opciones de comodidad, el fotógrafo también puede elegir la prioridad de apertura, la prioridad de obturador y un modo manual completo.

Las velocidades de obturación van desde 30 seg. a 1/2000 seg. y el flash se sincroniza a 1/90 seg. La cámara estaba equipada con un pequeño flash emergente además de la zapata caliente habitual de Minolta para flashes más grandes.
